Reference Scripture: Psalms 89:1

Main Text: Romans 9:15-16

15 For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[a] 16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

Ephesians 2:4-9

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Psalm 103:10

10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

Mark 1:40-45

40 A man with leprosy[a] came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
41 Jesus was indignant.[b] He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.
43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

What is Mercy?

It is not getting what you deserve, it is withholding punishment for someone who should have been punished.

  5. Mercy to the sick

  6. Gives you a new beginning

  7. Can re-write your destiny

Lamentation 3:22-23

22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
  1. If you are under the mercy of God, it is impossible to be at the mercy of man.

  2. The mercy of God, which compels His action, never fails.

  3. The compassion of God never expires: Jeremiah 31:3; Romans 8:9

How to access mercy from God?

  1. Learn how to thank God for everything, including the little things: John 6:12

  2. Learn how to ask: Matthew 7:7; Mark 10 (Story of Lazarus)

  3. You must show mercy to other people: Matthew 5:7; 2 Chronicles 21:20

  4. Taking pleasure in Zion: Psalm 102:13-14; Luke 7:2-5; Isaiah 53:3; 2 Samuel 24:24
